Set-up
Five minutes, start to finish.
You need your phone and your Google Business Profile. Nothing else.
01
Find your Google review link
Open the Google Business Profile app and tap Ask for reviews. Copy the link it gives you. That link opens the review screen directly.
A Maps listing link is not the same thing. It opens your profile and makes the customer hunt for the review button — which is the problem this product exists to remove.
02
Tap your own card
Hold your phone against the card. If it has not been set up yet you will land on an activation page. Paste the link, type your business name as it appears on Google, and submit.
03
Test the tap
Tap it again with a different phone if you have one. You should land on Google's review screen with your business name at the top and five empty stars. Do not post a test review — just check that the screen is right, then close it.
04
Put it where people stop
Not where there is space. Somewhere the customer is already standing still for ten seconds with their hands free.
05
Tell your staff one sentence
Pick one moment in your normal flow and have everyone say the same thing at it, to every customer. That single habit is the difference between a card that works and a card that sits there.
Placement
Where it goes decides whether it works.
Put it where people already stop.
Not where there is space. The stand needs to sit at a point in your flow where the customer is stationary for ten seconds with their hands free — the hand-off bar, not the register; check-out, not check-in.
Eye level from where they stand, not from where you stand.
Behind a monitor or below the counter lip means it does not exist. Walk to where the customer stands and look at the counter from there.
One stand per stopping point, not one per counter.
If people queue at one end and pay at the other, those are two moments. A second card at the second point tells you which one actually works.
Away from the card reader.
People are protective around payment terminals and will not put their phone near one voluntarily. A hand's width of separation is enough.
Do not hand it to them, and do not hold their phone.
The customer uses their own device on their own initiative. A tablet on your counter, or your phone in their hands, is a kiosk — that is banned, and it is the single fastest way to get a profile flagged.
If the tap does not work
Troubleshooting.
| Phone | What to do |
|---|---|
| iPhone XS / XR and newer | Background NFC. Tap the top edge. No app. |
| iPhone 7 / 8 / X | NFC scan from Control Center, or use the QR. |
| Android, 2015 and newer with NFC on | Tap center-back. No app. |
| Everything else | QR code fallback. |
- Thick, metal and MagSafe cases can block a tap. The QR always works.
- A customer needs to be signed in to a Google account to post a review.
- Most phones from the last several years scan QR codes from the native camera. A few older Android cameras need a scanner app.
Changing things
Moving, rebranding, or adding a location.
Your cards point at a link we host, not straight at Google. Call us and we will repoint it while you are on the phone, and every card you have already put out follows at once. There is nothing to reprint and nothing to rewrite — the chip carries the same link it was made with.
Questions
Common questions
Will a phone case stop it working?
Thick cases, metal cases and some MagSafe accessories can block the tap. The QR always works, which is why it is on every card.
What if I move, rebrand, or open a second location?
Your cards point at a link we host, not directly at Google. We change where that link goes and every card follows at once. Competitors' chips have to be physically reprogrammed one at a time with an NFC writer app — that is a design flaw, not a feature.
How do I set up a card I have just received?
Tap it with your own phone. It lands on an activation page, you paste your Google review link, and it is live. Cards are printed before they are assigned, so a brand-new card going to activation is normal, not a fault.
Where do I find my Google review link?
In the Google Business Profile app, tap Ask for reviews and copy the link it gives you. That link opens the review screen directly. A Maps listing link is not the same thing — it opens your profile and makes the customer hunt for the review button.
