The object

Everything on the card is doing a job.

Colorway

Noir or White, with gold accents

Two colorways, same price. The face is printed, not stickered, and it does not gloss up under counter lighting.

Connection

NFC (NDEF), with a printed QR fallback

A passive NFC tag holds an NDEF link. Phones that cannot read it scan the code on the face instead.

Power

None — the phone powers the tag

No battery, no charging, no pairing. The reader field in the phone energises the tag for the moment of the tap.

App required

None, on either side of the counter

Nothing to install for you or for the customer. Modern phones read the tag from the lock screen.

Destination

A Dime Media Smart Link you control

The chip encodes our short link, not a raw Google URL, so the destination stays editable after the chip is sealed.

In the box

What arrives.

  • One tap card
  • Set-up instructions
  • Routes through your Dime Media tap link

Compatibility

Which phones read it.

iPhone XS / XR and newerBackground NFC. Tap the top edge. No app.
iPhone 7 / 8 / XNFC scan from Control Center, or use the QR.
Android, 2015 and newer with NFC onTap center-back. No app.
Everything elseQR code fallback.
  • Thick, metal and MagSafe cases can block a tap. The QR always works.
  • A customer needs to be signed in to a Google account to post a review.
  • Most phones from the last several years scan QR codes from the native camera. A few older Android cameras need a scanner app.

Placement

Where it goes decides whether it works.

The single biggest factor in whether this works is where you put it and whether anyone mentions it. We ship the script and the placement rules with every order, and they are written out per trade.

Questions

Common questions

What actually happens when someone taps it?

Their phone reads the chip, opens their browser, and lands on Google's write-a-review screen for your business. Not your Maps listing — the screen with the stars and the text box already on it. On most phones that takes about three seconds and needs no app.

Does the customer need an app?

No. Modern iPhones and Android phones read NFC tags from the lock screen with nothing installed. Phones that cannot scan the QR code on the face instead.

Does the customer have to be signed in to Google?

Yes, to post a review. That is Google's requirement and it applies to every product in this category, including the ones that claim otherwise. Most people are already signed in on their phone, so in practice it is invisible — but we would rather you hear it from us than from a customer.

Do they have to type the review?

Yes. The customer writes their own review — we open the screen, we do not fill it in. Anything that pre-writes a review for someone is a fake review, and it is the kind of thing that gets a Business Profile suspended.

How is this different from a QR code sticker?

Three things. It taps as well as scans, so it works without the camera app. It routes through a link we host, so the destination stays changeable after the chip is sealed. And it is a printed object designed to sit on a counter rather than a sticker that curls up.

What if I move, rebrand, or open a second location?

Your cards point at a link we host, not directly at Google. We change where that link goes and every card follows at once. Competitors' chips have to be physically reprogrammed one at a time with an NFC writer app — that is a design flaw, not a feature.

Will a phone case stop it working?

Thick cases, metal cases and some MagSafe accessories can block the tap. The QR always works, which is why it is on every card.

What if I move, rebrand, or open a second location?

How do I set up a card I have just received?

Tap it with your own phone. It lands on an activation page, you paste your Google review link, and it is live. Cards are printed before they are assigned, so a brand-new card going to activation is normal, not a fault.

Where do I find my Google review link?

In the Google Business Profile app, tap Ask for reviews and copy the link it gives you. That link opens the review screen directly. A Maps listing link is not the same thing — it opens your profile and makes the customer hunt for the review button.
